Went to yahoo! answers for some recommendations of books for young Christians. What do I get? Buch of links to "The God Delusion" and similar. I rather expected this, actually. It's the internet. More specifically, it's a community which seems to harbor a suspicious amounts of idiots and trolls in general. But y'know what really, really bothers me?
People say Christians, Catholics, Mormons, and ect are the only ones who try to force their beliefs on others.
Yeah, there's lots of us who are obnoxious and fanatical. I get it. I've seen it. It's depressing and I apologize to the human race on behalf of it. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
But please stop acting like it's just us.
I'm pretty sure it's human nature in general to try to get someone to come 'round to your way of thinking. Sometimes this is not pulled off well. No, most of the time, rather. I've had beliefs pushed on me, too! It's universal, and it's stupid, and we'll probably always do it unless we can pull together and go all TOS-Federation and stuff.

And another thing. No, we're not persuaded anymore. Not in any sense of the word. Freedom of religion, of course, and that's how it should be. But I do get picked on for it. And actually saying anything about it will get people tossing rocks at me 'cause I'm being whiny, which is perhaps true, but really, it's not like others don't complain about it too. There's lots of scorn directed this way and some of it's deserved but not all of it. Which, grant you, Christians probably give to others also. Sorry, like I said, we're not perfect. Human, remember? It can be hard to see other people's point of view.

And yet another thing is, why does religion always have to get so nasty? Can we not discuss this intellectually without insults or personal attacks or belittling tones from either end? Seriously, fights break out everywhere, but it being such a heated topic is unpleasant.

Please don't flame me for saying all this, because everyone has got to rant some times and I'm tired of being a coward about it.
(But if you feel I've phrased anything impolitely, I apologize. That was not my intention.)

I agree. For a few years I attended a local church group but lately I've found myself more involved in the pagan community. The topic the youth group is looking at is discipleship. Now I hardly ever went to church but I was an active member of the youth group and when we started this topic, the youth leader became, in my opinion, really pushy. Started sending out 'homework packs'.
One of my friends is living with the church pastor but she doesn't believe and we both feel pushed. She's the only one who knows about me being pagan as I follow their beliefs. My church despises pagans and sees pagans as the devil incarnate.
My opinion is that there is a universal power. For some it God, for others it's Deities (E.g Athena, Isis, Zeus and Anubis).
Alot of Christians that I know are friendly but don't accept Christians where alot of pagans and Wiccas I know can accept the differences.
Sorry if it seems like I'm ranting as well, don't take it personally.

It is important to stand up for what you believe in honey. Yes, there are times when we are pushy about something that is important to us. It is not just in religious matters either. It is as you say-human nature to want to get others to see our point of view. While it is important to understand others and accept them, believing in something so much that you want to share it with others is what life is all about. If it isn't so important to you that you want to share it, then it really isn't important to you. Too many people only say they beleive in something but don't act on what they beleive. I mean think about it this way. If you tried something really delicious to eat, wouldn't you tell someone next time you spoke of food that they must try this thing you ate. Granted, it might not taste as good to them but you have to share it with them because you don't want them to miss something wonderful in their life. I love you Honey and am proud of you for taking a stand. Let me know if you still want info on christian reading materials-I can get some for you.
